A person should not put herself forth as a proponent of something as beautiful as haiku and then wrongly state that 5 + 5 + 7 = 19. One cannot claim to know all about haiku but be incapable of simple arithmetic.
Seventeen syllables make up a haiku.
And there were other mistakes in this morning’s letter, the others not quite so egregious as that one, but mistakes nonetheless.
Someone (who?) had blundered (to paraphrase Virginia Woolf).
A thousand apologies. I hate reading letters, posts, signs, etc. that are littered with mistakes.
